Rooted in Community, Driven by Care

At Nana’s Kitchen, giving back is part of our recipe. From supporting global causes to empowering women in our own backyard, we believe food is more than nourishment—it’s a way to connect, uplift, and make a lasting difference.

From Our Kitchen to the World

Global
Since the early 1970s, Shelina has supported the SOS Village in East Africa, helping to provide stability and hope to children in need. Over time, her outreach expanded to a charity in Tanzania supporting a leprosy village, where she has helped fund education, housing, and practical support for those most in need.
Local
Closer to home, Nana’s Kitchen donates food to the local food bank year-round and proudly joins the World Partnership Walk each year to raise funds for ending global poverty. In 2019, we were honoured to participate in the Salama Gala, which raised over $90,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society and families affected by childhood cancer.

Building Careers, Uplifting Women

Nana’s Kitchen began as a small Burnaby restaurant filled with the aromas of family-style cooking, warm laughter, and opportunity. Founder Shelina welcomed many new Canadian women into their team, offering more than just employment. For those with limited English and little familiarity with their new home, Nana’s Kitchen became a place to build confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging. Today, several of those early team members hold respected leadership positions within our administration and management—proof that opportunity and encouragement can open doors for life.
